FAQs

Who are these short trips for?
These trips are open to adults of all ages, with a particular focus on young adults (18–30). You do not need prior mission experience—just curiosity, openness, and a willingness to learn.

How long are the trips?
Most trips are between 2 and 4 weeks. Length varies depending on destination and focus, and exact dates are advertised well in advance.

What will we actually do on the trip?
Each trip includes cultural engagement, learning from local Christians and partners, opportunities for service, and time for reflection. The emphasis is on listening, learning, and relationship rather than “doing projects.”

How much does a short trip cost?
Costs vary by destination but usually range between $5,000–$6,000 NZD. This typically includes flights, accommodation, meals, transport, insurance, and visas. Personal spending money is additional.

Is fundraising required?
Fundraising is optional. We can provide guidance and resources for those who choose to raise support, but participants may also self-fund.

Do I need special skills or qualifications?
No. These trips are designed as learning experiences. What matters most is a teachable attitude, emotional maturity, and the ability to work well in a team.

What preparation is provided before we go?
You will receive an orientation pack, take part in online group sessions, and attend a final in-person or online orientation shortly before departure. This covers expectations, culture, safety, and spiritual preparation.

How are safety and risk managed?
Interserve has robust risk management processes, long-standing in-country relationships, and clear safety protocols. We continually assess risks and provide guidance before and during the trip.

Will there be leaders on the trip?
Yes. Each team is led by experienced leaders, often including people who have lived or served in the country.

What support is available during the trip?
Team leaders provide pastoral care, guidance, and daily check-ins. Participants are encouraged to support one another as part of a learning community.

What happens after we return home?
There is a structured debrief process, including group reflection sessions. This helps participants process their experience and consider how it shapes their faith, choices, and future direction.

Is this a pathway into longer-term mission?
It can be. While there is no pressure to “take the next step,” many participants use One Hundred Door Discoveries as a way to discern future involvement in mission—locally or globally.

How is this different from typical short-term mission trips?
One Hundred Door Discoveries prioritises learning, reflection, and relationship over activity. The goal is formation rather than output—helping participants understand God’s mission and their place within it.
