Lynette* works in a place that is in an extended financial crisis, with its society in a downward spiral.
Her shepherd’s heart is aligned with our Lord’s and she is motivated by compassion for the poor, the sick and the displaced. She writes that as the country becomes more desperate, “more and more people have turned to the Churches for help and the Churches are overwhelmed.”
She is reminded of the account in Matthew 9:35-38 ‘When (Jesus) saw the crowds, he had compassion for them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples,
“The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest.”
